Role Summary

Apprentice Therapeutic Radiographer

We are delighted to be offering the opportunity for an apprentice therapeutic radiographer to join the radiotherapy team at the Exeter Oncology Centre.

This exciting apprenticeship opportunity will allow you to start a career in a highly rewarding allied health profession which combines a high standard of patient care with advanced technical skills. You will undertake on the job training alongside BSc study with the University of the West of England (UWE) over a -month period. As part of a multidisciplinary team you will work under the direct supervision of registered practitioners to participate in the delivery of a safe and high-quality radiotherapy service. The training will be academically challenging but you will be fully supported throughout to develop the required skills and knowledge.

Successful completion of the training will allow you to register as a qualified therapeutic radiographer with the HCPC.

Radiotherapy plays a vital role in the management of cancer, with up to % of all cancer patients receiving radiotherapy as part of their treatment pathway. Therapeutic radiographers are specifically trained to be involved in all aspects of the provision of a radiotherapy service, including the preparation of bespoke treatment plans, treatment delivery, quality assurance of treatment plans and radiotherapy equipment plus the wider holistic care of the patient undergoing treatment.

We are looking to recruit individuals who are enthusiastic, caring and compassionate, highly motivated and academically self-sufficient. You must be able to balance independent study whilst working clinically. Engagement in off the job study is essential, with the university teaching sessions being mandatory. Much of the university component is delivered through distance learning though some attendance in person is required and so will require you to travel to and stay in Bristol for short periods of time. Working pattern:  You will be contracted to work hours per week. You will be workplace based for four days ( hours) per week and one day hours) per week will be protected study time to be undertaken in the department. In addition there are 3 planned block study weeks per year at UWE. Attendance of training at UWE is essential and annual leave must be arranged outside of these sessions.
