Main duties of the job

The Occupational Therapist will carry out functional assessments in a variety of environments such as the therapeutic kitchen, in the local community and laundry room with the use of MOHO. The successful candidate will plan and implement occupation focussed intervention for residents with chronic mental health issues whilst assessing risk and promoting positive risk taking. There may times when you may need to complete generic work to ensure the service runs effectively and residents needs are met.

There may times when you may need to complete genericwork to ensure the service runs effectively and residents needs are met.

You will develop knowledge inrelation to mental health conditions but also in relation to a wide variety ofphysical health issues and the impact on occupational performance. You willhave support from the Occupational Therapy Team and wider team at Thorpe House,where regular clinical supervision will be provided. There is opportunity forCPD including student education, internal and external training, as well asopportunities to attend conferences to develop in areas of interest andrelevant to the role. At Thorpe House we have our own preceptorship process forall newly qualified Occupational Therapists to consolidate core skills.

The successful candidate will be aregistered Occupational Therapist with the HCPC (Health Care ProfessionsCouncil) or in the process of registering. It is essential to understandOccupational Therapy process/interventions as well as have excellent communicationwith exceptional time management skills. An ability to work withmultidiscipline teams as well as taking a hands on approach is essential andexperience working in a mental health field is desirable.

The successful candidatewill be required to undergo an enhanced DBS and reference check and an offer ofemployment will be subject to successful clearance.

Hours: hours a week across 3shifts. Currently, this would be Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday but this canbe negotiated if needed. There is a requirement to work 1 weekend day everymonth and 1 later Wednesday shift every month on a rolling rota.

Qualifications

Essential

Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy HCPC registration Demonstrate continuing professional development

Desirable

Ability to complete of preceptorship within the service for initial 6 months Registration with the Royal College of OT
