We are delighted to advertise 2 Advanced Clinical Practitioner (multi-agency) training posts based within the inpatient wards at Atherleigh Park, Leigh. This exciting new role is a fully funded training position, you will be supported through a 2 year Master's degree programme to compliment your professional development in mental health, resulting in progression to band 8a upon successful completion of the course. 

To be part of our team, successful candidates will be an experienced nurse or allied health professional, have excellent leadership and clinical skills, as well as evidence of continuing professional development, have drive, ambition, passion, a flexible approach and be dedicated to working in a fast paced, challenging but exciting environment in a well-established and supportive MDT.

Successful post holders will undertake the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice Masters degree programme (level 7 apprenticeship) with Salford University and be committed to completing both the academic, clinical and leadership requirements of the programme.

In order to access apprenticeship funding, candidates must evidence that they have a first degree 2:2 or above, and GCSE Maths and English at C or above, please clearly demonstrate within the application form. Salford University require a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience. 

Main duties of the job

Candidates without a first degree may be able to complete an APL process to demonstrate other L7 learning or relevant educational and clinical experience to be considered. 

Upon qualification, the Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) will be responsible for assessment, diagnosis, formulation and prescribing of care planning including discharge planning within agreed protocols. The post holder will be recognised as an expert practitioner in an identified field of practice (including but not limited to non-medical prescribing), and will advise the Multi-Disciplinary team on expert, safe and effective models of care and treatment.

They will provide clinical leadership and management leading to the provision of safe, quality and effective care. They will support the improvement of workforce knowledge through inpatient education and training programmes.

The post holder will effectively be required to work across the range of services as determined by service user need.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To complete a university educational programme to train to become an advanced clinical practitioner. The main roles and responsibilities of the advanced clinical practitioner are as follows;

Practice at an advanced clinical level and exercise high levels of judgement, discretion, and decision-making in clinical care. Demonstrate clinical leadership, expert practice, advanced knowledge, and strategic direction on all aspects of adult acute mental health in the inpatient setting. Provide clinical leadership and management leading to the provision of safe, quality, effective care. Improve workforce knowledge and practice through the provision of an inpatient education and training. Lead improvements in the quality of care and safety through service development, evaluation and audit. Lead, or contribute towards the assessment, planning, interventions, and evaluation of evidence-based interventions for service users with SMI. To lead on or contribute to research and to embed relevant findings to the ACP role and clinical practice. Provide expert advice to other staff, professionals and external agencies on the assessment, treatment and evaluation of evidence-based care of service users with complex care needs. Act as a role model to all staff by demonstrating leadership and expertise within the service and Trust in line with the nursing strategy Recognise and work within own clinical competence and professional code of conduct as regulated by the professional governing body.

Essential criteria

5 years post qualification clinical experience working within an MDT model supporting people with complex mental health problems

Desirable criteria

Non-medical prescribing or willingness to complete. Other AHP advanced CPD Experience of effectively leading an MDT Experience of developing services and other professionals

First degree 2:2 or above (Nursing of AHP)
