Job summary

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious, well-motivated individual to join the leadership team at Honeybourne Inpatient Recovery Unit. Honeybourne Unit is an acute Mental Health Recovery Ward 10 bedded situated in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and provides inpatient recovery support.

As a member of the Honeybourne team you will be involved in the facilitation and support of patient assessment, engagement, treatment, this being individualised, Recovery orientated , within the principles of personalised care and always considering 'My Care Plan' and patient involvement within this.

The Recovery Inpatient Service is vital for supporting those with mental health difficulties of varying complexities. A MDT approach is adopted on the unit, you will have direct line management support and that of the whole team.

You will be involved in the ongoing development of the Recovery Inpatient Units and the service as a whole. The role will include a combination of clinical and operational duties which will support the maintenance of quality and standards for patient experiences. The role will consist of a strong staff focus, inclusive of HR Processes, rostering and the facilitation of staff Appraisals.

The role will include clinical shifts, management shifts and some weekend working to provide Senior leadership cover to both Inpatient Recovery

Main duties of the job

- Be responsible for the Clinical leadership and shift management within the unit.

- When required, undertake the duties of Clinical Co-ordinator.

- Maintain high standards of patient care ensuring all patients' individuality, dignity and privacy is maintained at all times.

- Ensure that each patient receives an individual clinical assessment which is thesubject of a regularly updated care plan that, wherever practicable, is formulated in conjunction with the patient.

- Ensure a good handover and communication always.

- Provide strong clinical leadership for all staff, maintaining and enhancing own knowledge by making use of educational opportunities, under the guidance of theWard Manager. This includes appropriate extensions to the role this including all AHPs.

- Provide Line Management Supervision and clinical guidance to junior staff.

- Facilitate open and harmonious communications amongst all staff across Honeybourne and Laurel.

- Provide clinical input into operational decision making for the Mental health Service and ensure that clinical quality is always at the forefront of these decisions.

Job responsibilities

To effectively lead the team on clinical issues

Ensure that the overall standards of care for clients are consistent with National and Local policies, incorporating best practice

To act as named nurse and care co-ordinator for a number of patients within the unit.

To act as shift co-ordinator and be responsible for the smooth running of the unit in the absence of unit manager

To work in a co-operative and effective environment with patients, carers, and the greater Multi Disciplinary Team.

To provide care within the framework of the Trusts integrated care programme approach, and risk assessment policies, ensuring best safety at all times

Promote individual choice and to enable individuals to function at their optimum level as per Mission Statement and Philosophy of Care for Rehabilitation and Recovery service.

To perform mental health examinations and assessments on patients. To make non specialised therapeutic interventions with patients

To assist patients with personal care when required for in the care programme, and to ensure dignity and modesty for all patients

To monitor physical as well as mental health and refer to other members of MDT to ensure best care when appropriate

To respect the needs of patients, relatives, carers and other significant persons in care planning and management including undertaking a carers needs assessment and assisting carers in meeting their needs

Participate in relevant planning, monitoring and evaluation processes

To make full use of colleagues, peer supervision, casework presentation etc to enable most use of skills and time to ensure a high standard of professional care

Participate in the education of learners and trainees in issues relating to your sphere of practice

Contribute to the promotion of positive attitudes regarding mental health and mental illness among non mental health colleagues

Supervise junior and unregistered staff in the process of care delivery

Attend relevant professional training conferences and mandatory courses as required

Comply with all trust and local policies and procedures. Maintain proficient skills and knowledge base in order to effectively implement all aspects of the Nursing process, risk assessments and CPA procedure

Ensure that all practice is consistent with Mental Health, Health and safety, and Child Protection legislation, reporting any concerns promptly to unit manager/modern matron.

Maintain patients records and all information, electronic data or otherwise, securely, and in strict confidence. Ensuring this practice is maintained by all staff

Maintain accurate and appropriate records of all assessments, interventions, and referrals in line with Trust policies

Undertake clinical audit, collect relevant statistics, clinical data and to participate in clinical audit and evaluation

To be infection Control Lead for the unit and ensure high standards are maintained

Contribute to the development of comprehensive and patient focused operational policies and guidelines

Make appropriate use of time and resources

To work in a co-operative and effective environment with patients, carers and the greater multi-disciplinary team

To safely work within Health & Safety guidelines

To safely administer medication within POPAM & NMC guidelines

To ensure safety in food hygiene and educate patients on health practice

Attend regular individual performance and review meetings with manager

Ensure a therapeutic treatment programme is developed for individual patients

To participate and assist the manager with the recruitment process

To act up in the absence of the unit manager

Significant proven post qualifying experience of working with people with severe and enduring mental illness

Professional Health or Social Care qualification: RNLD, RMHN, OT, MHSW
