The Faculty wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant to support the work of Dr Rachel Hayes. The successful applicant will support the delivery of a randomised controlled trial to test the effectiveness of a new treatment for depression called Mindfulness for Adolescents and Carers (MAC).

The Children and Young People’s Mental Health Research Collaboration (ChYMe) wishes to appoint a Graduate Research Associate to support the delivery of a randomised controlled trial to test the effectiveness of a new treatment for depression called Mindfulness for Adolescents and Carers (MAC). MAC is a teenager friendly version of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive-Therapy (MBCT), which also supports carers to manage their own distress and to help their teenagers recover and stay well.

The current post forms part of a team of six trial site Research Assistants across England, supporting the successful running of a multisite hybrid clinical and cost-effectiveness randomised controlled trial called ATTEND, under the direction of the Site Lead Rachel Hayes, and the Trial Manager. This will include supporting the Devon site’s recruitment and assessment of young people and carers, assisting with intervention delivery, and data entry and management. The postholder will also liaise with the wider study team including collaborators at the University of Exeter and several other universities and NHS trusts, such as Cambridge, King’s College London, Sussex, Oxford, Nottingham, Surrey, and Bradford.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Applicants will be educated to first degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic and motivated person. They will have an interest in working with young people with mental health difficulties and in developing and evaluating new psychological interventions. They will be highly organised with excellent communication and engagement skills. They will work well with others and independently, show initiative when faced with challenges, and have good problem-solving skills.
