Job summary

Working Part time : 30 hours per week

We are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic, forward thinking Senior Pharmacy Technician. You will support the co-ordination of the day to day activities involved in the production of injectable medicines.

Candidates will be a Registered Pharmacy Technician with previous experience of working in a Pharmacy Aseptic Unit and thorough understanding of the principals of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). The successful candidate will have good organisational, literacy, numeracy and computer skills

Flexible working will be considered.

Main duties of the job

You will plan and supervise the preparation of sterile medicinal products made aseptically for patients of this Trust and external customers. Your role will include:

Prioritisation of work Training and assessing technical staff Carrying out aseptic preparation of sterile medicinal products including Cytotoxic Chemotherapy Dispensing and checking of dispensed prescriptions and requisitions in the dispensary.

You will actively participate in the development of the department in line with recognised best practice. You need to be able to effectively manage your time, prioritise work, meet deadlines and have excellent communication and leadership skills.

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:

The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered Pharmacy Technician with GPhC NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services with appropriate underpinning knowledge (or equivalent) plus knowledge and equivalent experience in Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) environment to degree level Evidence of ongoing professional development Leeds University APDM course or willingness to attend.

NW Region Primary Level Training for Aseptic Personnel NVQ assessor

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

2 years' experience of working within hospital pharmacy in a Good Manufacturing Practice GMP (environment) Significant experience of aseptic compounding Significant work experience that requires understanding and adherence to set standard Operating work policies and procedures. Experience in a supervisory role.
