We are looking for

a B5 or B6 Research Nurse, depending on experience. There is scope to increase to a B6 within 12months of appointed, dependant on achieving relevant clinical research competencies.

Working closely with the Clinical Research Unit Manager and as a member of the senior team, the post holder will support colleagues and researchers throughout the research process, including the delivery of clinical aspects associated with our protocols.

Identifying, screening and assessing participants in accordance with the protocols and in conjunction with other members of the clinical research team is an integral part of the role.

Bristol Eye Hospital is the leading provider of ophthalmic services in the South West of England. These cover the full range primary, secondary and tertiary care, with regional clinics serving populations of up to five million people.

The Clinical Research Unit specialises in ophthalmic research and we cover various specialties within Ophthalmology including Medical Retina, Uveitis, Thyroid Eye Disease and Glaucoma. We work on a wide range of different studies including phase I -IV. We have a core team of Research Nurses, Senior Trial Coordinators, Trial Coordinators and Assistant Trial Coordinators and also work more widely with Consultants, Fellows, Optometrists, Imaging Staff and other support departments across the Trust such as Pharmacy.

The work requires initiative, accuracy and attention to detail. You will be in contact with a broad professional group, as well as members of the public and research sponsors; you will be expected to represent the Trust well at all times. Therefore good communication skills are essential. All work will be carried out in accordance to ICH-GCP, the Data Protection Act and Research Governance, GDPR, as well as local Standard Operating Procedures and Policies.

Occasional travel to investigator/development meetings and training/conferences will be expected.

Knowledge/Experience

Essential criteria

Broad knowledge and experience of clinical practice within an acute hospital environment (B5,B6) Interest in clinical research (B5, B6) Knowledge of Data Protection Act 1984, GDPR and Caldicott principles (B5, B6) Good understanding of the use of medical terminology (B5, B6) Clinical, organisational and management experience (B6)

Desirable criteria

Research / Audit experience (B5, B6) Ophthalmology Experience (B5, B6) Knowledge of the regulatory and legal frameworks related to undertaking clinical research (B6 Project management experience (B6) Knowledge of research design and methodology (B6)

Qualifications/ Training

Registered Nurse level 1 with current NMC registration (B5,B6) Evidence of continuing professional development (B5, B6) Demonstrable relevant post qualification clinical experience (B5, B6) Undergraduate degree in Nursing, Science or Health related discipline (B6)

Desirable criteria

Undergraduate degree in Nursing, Science or Health related discipline (B5) Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training (B5, B6) Post graduate qualification in research (B6) Teaching qualification (B6)
