Queens View Harbour Care Home is looking to appoint a Chef (Bank)

This is an exciting opportunity to join a new care home which has taken the local market by storm, having only opened in the Summer of 2021.  

We are delighted to have a fully occupied home, which recently received an incredible report from the Care Inspectorate: 5,5,5,5,4.

As Chef, you will take responsibility for organising and controlling the efficient and economic production of quality food within the allowed budget, day to day kitchen management, whilst maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

Chef (Bank) Contract

      Pay Rate: £11.50

       Bank Contract

Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
Required

      City & Guilds 706 1 & 2, or equivalent qualification (achieved or working towards)

      Team player.

      Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.

      Good communication skills.

      Ability to work on own initiative

Desired

               Previous management or supervisory experienced.

               Experience of food preparation for the relevant Service User group.

               Experience working in a care environment would be advantageous but not a deal-breaker.

Main Responsibilities

      Prepare, cook, and serve hot and cold meals, as and when required.

      Liaise with the Home Manager when planning/costing menus to provide a balanced nutritious diet, making the best use of available fresh foods.

      Supervise and instruct kitchen staff members in the use of all equipment and hygiene procedures, giving help and guidance where appropriate.

      Conduct Basic Food Hygiene training for all care staff involved in handling and delivery of food.

      Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence.

      Maintain accurate records of food supplies, and freezer/fridge temperatures.

      Ensure stock rotation. 

      Assist in the ordering of stocks and checking of deliveries, and check and value stocks as required by the Home Manager.

      Prepare staff rota for kitchen.

      Interview for new staff members with the Home Manager as and when required.

      Ensure statutory Health & Safety standards in the kitchen and dining areas.

      Ensure all crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately, and that the overall cleaning of the kitchen area and dining areas is carried out effectively.
