Role Summary

An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen to join the Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) Specialist Nursing team within the Exeter South West Peninsula ILD Service in the Eastern Department of Respiratory Medicine, 2 days a week for 6 months. The Exeter ILD Service provides a regional service covering the South West Peninsula (Devon, Cornwall and parts of Somerset and Dorset) in addition to supporting the local patients within the Eastern respiratory team at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

This opportunity has arisen due to back fill research funding for one of the existing ILD Clinical Nurse Specialists.

The successful candidate’s role will be to provide support and education for patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) and their families/carers. The fixed term post will enable you to work within the existing ILD service supporting patients during telephone or face to face clinics and hospital admissions. You will facilitate the planning and delivery of patient care to address their needs and ensure timely investigations, diagnosis and treatment. Antifibrotic medication prescription has increased through NICE guidelines and much of the patient support will enable patients to manage side effects and ensure they have a safe treatment through blood monitoring and regular contact.

The ideal candidate will have a special interest in ILD with a couple of years’ experience of working with in respiratory medicine and/or research. You will need to show in your job application how you meet the requirements of the person specification.

The ILD service at the RDE are a dynamic team who are keen to provide opportunities for staff development in their speciality and respiratory medicine. You will be supported by the existing team which includes ILD consultant, ILD Nurses, ILD co-ordinator, pharmacist and supportive care with a physiotherapist, occupational therapist and dietitian. Key within this team is your opportunity to contribute to advancement and quality improvement of the ILD service.

Working Pattern: hours per week, Wednesday and Thursday

Interview Date: Week commencing 9th September 4

Pay:  The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 4-5 rates, inclusive of a pay award implemented from October 4. If you join before this date, the pay award will be backdated to April 4 or your start date, whichever is later. Until then, remuneration will be based on the 3-4 pay bandings ().
