We have a current requirement for a Fabrication Estimator to join the business on a permanent basis, the role will cover our various projects across Scotland on a hybrid working model working in our Glasgow office. The Fabrication Estimator role is to provide accurate and comprehensive estimates for a wide range of steelwork projects. This role requires managing multiple estimates simultaneously, ensuring timely submissions, and maintaining quality standards. The estimator will work closely with various departments to ensure the estimates align with the agreed pricing strategy and project requirements.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Prepare Steelwork Estimates: Develop accurate estimates for a diverse range of steelwork projects, ensuring alignment with the agreed pricing strategy.
  • Time Management: Efficiently manage time across multiple concurrent estimates to ensure timely submissions that meet agreed deadlines and KPI requirements.
  • Supplier and Subcontractor Quotations: Review and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.
  • Basis of Estimate: Produce comprehensive basis of estimate documents, including the creation of assumptions, exemptions, and risk identification.
  • Risk Registers: Develop and maintain Project Risk Registers to identify and mitigate potential project risks.
  • Interdepartmental Communication: Collaborate with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Technical & Design teams, and Commercial personnel throughout the estimate development process.
  • Reporting: Report to the Lead Estimator on clarifications, questions, and any challenges encountered after completing an estimate.
  • Stakeholder Management: Manage both internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and project alignment.
  • Project Preparation: Prepare work by gathering necessary information and requirements, setting priorities based on direction from the Estimating Manager, Senior Estimators, and own initiative.
  • Vendor and Subcontractor Management: Obtain bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials, identifying qualified subcontractors, and negotiating prices.
  • Quality Service Maintenance: Uphold quality service standards by adhering to organisational protocols and standards.

To be considered for this position you will have at least 3-5 years previous Fabrication estimating experience ideally within an engineering or construction environment, the ideal candidate will have experience of working within the Waste and Water industry with some practical / site experience preferred. The suitable candidate will have the ability to interpret and communicate complex technical information and be competent in MS Excel with experience of MS Project or P6 Primavera planning software.
