The shift pattern is Mon to Sun 12 hr shifts.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the developing Advanced Practitioner Team within Neurosurgery and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) based at the Institute of Neurological Sciences, Glasgow. The Institute of Neurological Sciences has three, 22 bedded Neurosurgery wards which provide emergency and elective neurosurgical and spinal care as part of the Neuroscience Service to the WoS. OMFS has one, 21 bedded ward which provides emergency and elective surgery including Head and Neck Cancer surgery to the WoS. This post will initially be based in Neurosurgery. With the ongoing planned development of the Advanced Practice service within Neurosurgery, OMFS and Head Injury Teams, it is anticipated that the successful candidate will rotate between each of these specialities. Working across role and organisational boundaries the Advanced Practitioner (AP) will manage the complete clinical care for their patients utilising expert knowledge base and clinical competence to support multi-professional teams within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, ensuring a high standard of clinical care, in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and Health and Safety Legislation and Health and Care Professions Council.
As a clinical leader, the AP has the freedom and authority to act autonomously in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, including prescribing, of patients with multi-dimensional problems. This includes the authority to refer, admit and discharge within appropriate clinical areas. APs can work in or across all clinical settings, dependant on their area of expertise. Applicants should have or be working towards a Masters Level Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Practice. We may also consider applications for trainee AP posts (Annex 21) and will support the development of individuals to meet advanced practice competencies. This will be supported by a triangulation approach of academic courses, mentorship and clinical supervision. We welcome applicants, with a minimum of four years post registration experience, from NMC registered nurses and/or Allied Health Professionals who are registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council.
