The Project Manager will lead the BRIDGE project--Broadening cancer Research participation and Diversity through a Greater Manchester Education Programme. The role

This secondment focuses on expanding access to cancer research by building the skills and cultural competency of GM's cancer workforce. The BRIDGE project will develop a multi-layered educational programme that enhances patient access to trials, improves workforce communication skills, and fosters a culture of inclusivity and empowerment. You'll have the chance to advance a research-positive environment that benefits staff, patients, and communities alike, creating opportunities for meaningful impact.

Main duties of the job

The Research Education Manager will support the Workforce and Education Programme to:

Plan and deliver educational initiatives for the multi-professional workforce, including developing eLearning modules, videos, webinars, and infographics, aligned with ACCEND. Identify key capabilities within ACCEND, ensuring all educational content aligns with national standards. Engage with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to establish a project steering group, incorporating input from research nurses, oncology experts, patient representatives, and the wider cancer workforce. Manage project timelines and deliverables, ensuring adherence to agreed schedules. Lead liaison with key stakeholders across the system

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Education Manager will support the Workforce and Education Programme to:

Plan and deliver educational initiatives for the multi-professional workforce, including developing eLearning modules, videos, webinars, and infographics, aligned with ACCEND. The indicative roles and responsibilities are as follows:

Leadership and Expertise

Commission the development of eLearning content, acting as the primary liaison between the Alliance and external developers. Lead the development of video scripts with subject matter experts in research, targeting common misconceptions about cancer research and clinical trials. Collaborate with communication and engagement to create infographics to boost understanding of various research and trial types, ensuring accessibility through consultations with the workforce. Collaborate with HEIs to incorporate cancer research into pre-registration curricula as part of the influencing curricula initiative. Develop a communication and engagement strategy in conjunction with the relevant teams to promote educational materials

Set-Up and Organisation

Lead a social media campaign focused on research and trials, promoting the educational toolkit. Launch webinars and promotional events, ensuring alignment with the broader Alliance education programme. Attend and contribute to research, workforce, and education meetings, aligning projects with broader programme ambitions

Communication and Support

Implement comprehensive communication skills training, aimed at enhancing patient advocacy and improving conversations about cancer research trials for the multidisciplinary workforce. Conduct a tender process for selecting a third-party developer to provide AI-based communication skills training. Collaborate with SMEs and the provider to develop communication scenarios that align with ACCEND capabilities, and create a marking scheme for assessment. Lead consultations on developed scenarios, gathering feedback to refine and validate the training material. Develop and distribute promotional materials to support the rollout of training programmes. Support discussions on developing a sustainable model for extending CCT access beyond research nurses. Collaborate with the Research Clinical Lead, Research Pathway Manager, and Senior Programme Lead to support project delivery and strategic alignment

Data and Information

Identify and engage clinical nurse specialists (CNSs) within the breast workforce for pilot testing communication training simulations. Establish baseline data for CNS participants, monitoring progress and outcomes throughout the pilot. Identify and track key metrics to measure the impact of educational activities on the workforce. Ensure that data is managed effectively and meets GDPR requirements

Planning and Reporting

Evaluate the workforce impact of the education provided, using data-driven insights to refine and improve offerings. Track and evaluate the effectiveness of CCT, including peer support meetings and evaluations of training initiatives like CanSurviveUK. Oversee budget management Lead sustainability initiatives, working with other cancer alliances and research organisations to promote and license the educational offerings for further use. Lead the definition of outcome measures that can be monitored during the year. Track progress against these outcome measures. Quality assure the programme against agreed standards and business plans, including for the timeliness and quality of reports and meeting of deadlines. Develop and maintain a risk register for the project, reporting risks and issues to the Senior Programme Lead for Education Person Specification

Educated to postgraduate degree level or equivalent or significant experience of working at a similar level

Formal qualification or equivalent experience in teaching, education or project management
