JobSummary:

  • Asa social worker your role will be to act as an officer of the LocalAuthority and execute statutory functions ensuring that individualsare safeguarded and supported to achieve positiveoutcomes.
  • Youwill work in partnership with people other professionals andagencies and intervene to safeguard individuals promote socialchange maximise independence and provide appropriate informationand advice about third sector and universal services which supportpositive outcomes.
  • Youwill be able to apply professional curiosity and use social worktheories and knowledge to formulate and test hypotheses reaching aprofessional judgement and decision.
  • Youwill produce a good standard of professional documentation.Relevant to your service area and be able to prioritise yourworkload and work within defined timescales.
  • Principlesof human rights and social justice are fundamental to the role andyou will be required to be able to effectively balance theprotection of individual rights against the need to useprofessional authority and accountability effectively to safeguardvulnerable individuals.
  • Youwill uphold the profession and act a representative of the Localauthority in a variety of forums.

KeyDuties/Accountabilities(Sample):

  • Deliverservice activities and manage caseloads to ensure intended outcomesfor customersand the Council are deliveredwithin agreed servicestandards.
  • Identifyand implement improvements in own work area in order to delivercontinuous service improvement and improved outcomes tocustomers.
  • Liaisewith customers to review service requirements and resolveproblems.
  • Keep up todate with changes in policy/legislation/contractual requirements inorder toensure service delivery iseffective and complies with appropriateregulations.

Skills/Experience:

  • Demonstratean effective and active use of supervision for accountabilityprofessional reflection and development
  • Demonstratean ability and understanding of the frameworks theory and researchwhich are applicable to the practice setting.
  • Demonstratea working knowledge and understanding of the legal and policyframeworks and guidance that inform social work practice and whichsafeguard vulnerable service users. (Relating specifically to thearea in which this post is placed).
  • Demonstratean ability to communicate with clearly and effectively serviceusers families and carers colleagues and other professionalsensuring that individual s views opinions and wishes are explicitlyrecorded using a range of tools and techniques applicable to theservice sector.
  • Haveexcellent organisational skills and be able to prioritise workloadaccording to risk and need.
  • Demonstratethe ability to work as an autonomous professional and an ability toproduce succinct and clear professional documentation which is ofan excellent standard and in line with statutory and localtimescales and local protocol.
  • Demonstrateskills in sharing information appropriately and respectfully andrecognise lines of accountability and the boundaries ofprofessional autonomy and discretion.
  • Befamiliar with and demonstrate practice which meets the requiredlevel within social work frameworks. The PCF and KSS underpin therole and expectations of a Social Worker in the PeopleDirectorate.
  • Demonstrablewillingness to participate in training and staff developmentrelevant to the role and to take advantage of learningopportunities and apply learning. High degree of competence in useof IT.
  • Carry outall duties in accordance with all the council and directoratepolicies and procedures implementing and promoting and ensure thatmembers of staff within the team are complying with thesestandards.
  • Ensure allhealth and safety standards are adhered to for the relevant workarea.

AdditionalInformation:

  • Socialwork qualification and at least one years post qualifyingexperience in a social work role and be able to meet therequirements of the social work regulator.With the exception of Newly qualified Social Workers(ASYE).
  • Acurrent valid UK driving licence and the use of a car for work withvalid insurance covering business use whererequired.
