Lymphoedema Band 6 secondment post for 6 months working in the Enfield Lymphoedema Service through Enfield Community Services (internal applicants only).

An exciting oppurtunity for a nurse to develop their skills in the management of lymphoedema.

The role of a lymphoedema practitoner is key to making a difference to those living with this long term condtion. Our service aims are to improve our patients wellbeing both physically and psychologically. Supporting patients to learn to self manage their condtion.

Main duties of the job

This a clinical role, the post holder will assist in the daily running of the lymphoedema service, working in clinic and community settings. They will have the opportunity to develop their skills in the management of lymphoedema, chronic oedema and lipoedema.

The post holder would be expected to demonstrate competent and compassionate clinical judgement in deciding on patient focused long-term goals, with the aim of improving quality of life for the patient with lymphoedema or chronic oedema. To carry a clinical caseload, working to a high professional standard, using clinical and theoretical knowledge and skills to work as an autonomous practitioner, maintaining associated record keeping via RIO. To work as a team player in a small team and learn the specialized skills, to further their knowledge in lymphoedema management.

The post offers a fantastic opportunity to develop clinical skills and develop one to one relationship with patients supporting them to manage their long-term conditions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main duties and clinical reponsibilties:

1.1: To aid the lymphoedema team in the provision of community lymphoedema services across Enfield.

1.2: To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own professional practice in line with the standards of the trust, Division and Nursing and Midwifery Council/ professional regulator.

1.3: To work closely with all members of the lymphoedema Service to develop their skills and become able to manage uncomplicated lymphoedema patients.

1.4: To work as a key worker for patients, to assess and manage clinical risk within own patient caseload, ensuring patients have consented to therapy and treatment.

1.5: To utilize advanced clinical reasoning skills and evidence-based knowledge to assess patients holistically and then to implement lymphoedema management plan as appropriate

1.6: To demonstrate highly developed dexterity, coordination and palpatory sensory skills for assessment and manual treatment of patients

1.7: To provide spontaneous specialist lymphoedema advice, face to face and/or via the telephone

1.8: To provide educative information and instruction to the patient, relatives, carers, and healthcare professionals to promote understanding of the aims of therapy/ treatment intervention or non-intervention.

1.9: To create with patients’ self-management care plans and encourage compliance with self-care

2.0: To be available and provide specialist advice to health care professionals from within the Trust.

Education and Training

Essential criteria

NMC 1st level registrationtration Evidence of continuing professional development An interest in the management of lymphoedema, chronic oedema and lipoedema. Willing to work towards a qualification in lymphoedema management To have a willingness to undertake non-medical prescribing qualification

Desirable criteria

Undertaken Lymphoedema Training Degree – nursing related Quality Improvement Course. Independent Nurse Prescribing Course

Experience

Essential criteria

Minimum 6 months post registration experience Evidence of continuing professional development An interest in the management of lymphoedema, chronic oedema and lipoedema. Efficient management of resourcesbility to work independently and as a member of a teamderstanding of, or experience in managing long-term conditions Evidence of personal and professional development

Desirable criteria

Experience working in community setting and provided supportive care to patients with Lymphoedema or Chronic Oedema Experience Palliative care and/or Oncology experience
