Role Overview:

As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional development. This position is ideal for a psychology graduate who is looking to gain hands-on experience in a school setting, particularly if you are considering a future career in education, educational psychology, or a related field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Support: Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, particularly those with additional needs such as SEN, mental health challenges, or behavioural difficulties. Help these students to engage with their learning and overcome barriers to their education.

  • Classroom Assistance: Work closely with teachers to support the delivery of lessons, ensuring that all students can access the curriculum. Assist in managing classroom behaviour, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.

  • Pastoral Care: Offer emotional and social support to students, helping to build their confidence, self-esteem, and resilience. Be a trusted adult that students can turn to for guidance and support.

  • Intervention Programmes: Assist in the planning and delivery of intervention programmes aimed at improving students’ academic performance, behaviour, and mental well-being. This may include running workshops, mentoring sessions, or targeted academic support.

  • Progress Monitoring: Track the progress of the students you support, maintaining detailed records and providing feedback to teachers and senior staff. Contribute to the development of individual education plans (IEPs) and other support strategies.

  • Collaboration: Work alongside the school’s SENCO, teachers, and other support staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student support. Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on student progress and well-being.

  • Behaviour Management: Implement agreed-upon behaviour management strategies to support students who may be struggling with behavioural issues. Help to create a calm and structured learning environment.

  • Safeguarding: Adhere to the school’s safeguarding policies, ensuring the safety and well-being of all students. Report any concerns promptly to the designated safeguarding lead.

Requirements:

  • A degree in Psychology or a related field.
  • A strong interest in supporting young people’s educational and emotional development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to promoting the well-being of all students.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team, contributing to a supportive and inclusive school environment.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
