GSL Education are seeking a Learning Support to work at a Special Educational Needs School located in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, starting in September 2024. You will be working with a small group of Primary-aged students, providing social, emotional and academic support.
Learning Support Responsibilities:
- Supporting primary students with a range of special educational needs, including autism, learning difficulties, speech, language, and communication needs and social, emotional, and mental health needs.
- Promoting independence where possible, supporting life skills such as cooking and everyday finances.
- Working with the class teachers to develop sensory, speech, language, and communication needs.
- Managing behaviours within the classroom and being aware of triggers, using de-escalation techniques.
- Assisting with personal care needs as and when appropriate.
Learning Support Requirements:
- Hold a Level 2 qualification or higher, such as an NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care.
- Have at least 6 months experience supporting children or young people with additional needs in a care of school setting.
- Be a strong and engaging communicator.
- Be compassionate, caring, and have a genuine desire to help young people overcome their barriers.
- Hold a DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
