We have a CNS vacancy in our team of Rheumatology Nurse Specialists, this is an exciting and rare opportunity to join a motivated team who deliver expert patient care and strive for change.

The CNS will work in close collaboration with a team of nurses, doctors and the wider multi-disciplinary team to help deliver expert and high quality care for our patients with rheumatological conditions.

Main duties of the job

Once in-house training programme completed & competencies achieved the post holder will be able to:

Assist in the development of expert nursing practice within Rheumatology, providing & encouraging high standards of evidenced based nursing care to our patients

Provide professional advice & leadership to other professionals, MDT, patients & their carers

Assist Matron/Senior Trust staff in maintaining & enhancing professional standards of care across the spectrum of Rheumatology services, to ensure the DH agendas are taken forward & specific service objectives are developed

Act as a resource for education & research

Run independent Nurse led clinics

Be involved with the CNS telephone helpline which has positive feedback. The team wants to be able to keep up the high demand (40-60 calls a day) for this service which often avoids patients having to attend the acute Trust

Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC register

Experience

Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD Can demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council ( NMC ) standards for student supervision and assessment Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision /education of junior staff Experience of mentoring undergraduate students Evidence of ability to lead /coordinate a shift /area of department Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice Demonstrate an ability, experience, passion in the following: Leadership Team Building Managing resources Time management Role modelling Change management / clinical developments Clinical governance Audit and research Workforce planning / management NHS policy and political awareness
