London, United Kingdom University College London Hospitals Full time

Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join UCLH as a Matron for Surgical Specialties to cover maternity leave for a period of 15 months. Based at the Westmoreland Street site, this is one of two matron posts in the hospital. This post leads on Thoracics, inpatients, Urology outpatients and benign urological services. The other post holder leads on urology inpatients, WMS theatres and cancer related services (uro-oncology). This arrangement largely mirrors the general management arrangement, and you will work closely to create and foster a strong triumvirate working relationship with the designated GM and clinical lead(s). The two matron posts work very closely together, along with the other 2 matrons in the division based at the UCH site.

Main duties of the job

The Matron provides direct management and professional leadership for nursing teams. The Matron will lead, develop, and provide professional leadership to Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS), Ward/Departmental Sisters/Charge Nurses, outpatients, therapy, and theatre teams.

We’re looking for an individual who can contribute to the ongoing implementation of the nursing and midwifery strategy, ensuring achievement of its objectives and proactively modernising nursing roles in accordance with the needs of patients. You will also proactively support the division to meet its over-arching aims around quality and safety, recovery, performance, efficiency, and financial stability.

The post holder will undertake the key functions of the Matron role, including providing highly visible clinical leadership, to ensure patient experience and safety in all clinical areas is always of the highest possible standard, with particular emphasis on dignity and compassion.
