The Children and Young People's Psychological Service (CYPPS) Blackpool is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic systemic family therapist to join our busy community service for children, young people and their families.

We are a friendly and supportive team of psychological professions aiming to deliver high quality and innovative psychologically informed solutions through consultation, individual and systemic therapies and group work. You will join a service that offers a number of therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Eye Movement and Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) and Video Interactive Guidance (VIG), and you will lead on the provision of high quality systemic therapies including a family therapy clinic. We would also be keen for you to provide systemic consultation within the team and, where appropriate, external to the team.

As a valued member of our team you will be supported in nurturing an area of specialist interest relevant to your role and our service. There is ample opportunity for peer support (including a well-established peer support group for systemic and family therapists within the organisation). You will also have access to individual clinical supervision in-line with professional requirements. We actively support our team members in accessing development opportunities, including training in specific therapies.

Main duties of the job

To lead on and provide a high quality specialist family and systemic therapy service to clients and families with complex psychological difficulties as part of Children and Young People's Psychological Services (CYPPS) - Blackpool provided by Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust (LSCFT).

To provide specialist assessment, formulation and therapy for individual children, young people and their parents/carers within the service.

To offer advice, consultancy and supervision, and support the work of colleagues providing systemic based care and treatment, according to expertise.

To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures.

To utilise research skills for audits, as appropriate within the service.

To be involved in service developments, as appropriate.

We would support opportunities for you to offer supervision, which can include offering placements for trainee systemic and family therapists. All clinicians working in our service have an agreed job plan, which protects core clinical commitments and allocated time for agreed projects.

The post is predominantly office based with some opportunity for remote working.

Education?Qualifications

Essential

Professional postgraduate qualification in a mental health or social welfare discipline or agreed Association of Family Therapy (AFT) equivalent. Professional postgraduate qualification as a Systemic Psychotherapist or agreed Association of Family Therapy (AFT) equivalent. Registration as a Systemic Psychotherapist with UKCP or equivalent body.

Desirable

Specialist training in supervision. Specialist training in teaching Systemic Psychotherapy. Previous related academic achievements. Post-qualification training in one or more additional specialised areas of therapeutic practice.

Knowledge/Skills

Essential

Knowledge of and skill in using the variety of approaches and methods within systemic practice ( social constructionist, narrative, solution focused, etc.) as required to work with individuals, couples, family systems, groups and organisations. Knowledge of child development/ mental health issues. Knowledge of other modalities ( psychoanalytic, medical, behavioural, etc.) sufficient to engage appropriately with colleagues and their work with clients. Knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to mental health and the full range of client groups. Skills in the use of methods of Systemic Psychotherapy/ Family based assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. High level of relationship and communication skills to work with clients, families and/or professionals where the atmosphere might be highly emotive with clients and families expressing anger and hostility. Well-developed skills in the ability to comprehend and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information in a manner appropriate to a range of settings and audiences, including complex highly emotive situations and those with significantly impaired communication capacities. Ability to liaise with and utilise analytical skills to manage complex professional meetings, networks and processes in relation to individuals and families. Skills in providing consultation/supervision to other systemic psychotherapists and/or multidisciplinary colleagues. Knowledge of ethical practice mindful of issues of power and diversity and to work in a way that is sensitive to clients' cultural backgrounds. Knowledge and skills of risk management and ability to perform a clinical risk assessment. Must be capable of taking substantial professional responsibility and acting autonomously in respect of clinical decisions in the area of specialist practice. Knowledge and application of standardised assessments and outcome measures. Evidence of continuing Professional Development as required by UKCP/AFT guidelines. Adequate keyboard skills and understanding of IT packages to complete work and update clinical records.

Desirable

Knowledge of the theory and practice of Systemic Psychotherapy/Family therapy in specific difficult to treat groups ( personality disorder, dual diagnosis etc). Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings. Knowledge of conducting literature searches and critically analysing clinical and research evidence. Knowledge of research methodology consistent with systemic practice.

Experience

Essential

Substantial practice in relevant first profession. Minimum of 2 years as a family and systemic psychotherapist within Children and Young people's Mental Health Services, or similar specialist service, where practise has been supervised by a senior family/systemic psychotherapist. Experience of delivering evidence based approaches with children and young people. Experience of working within a Multi-disciplinary Team/ Multi- Agency Working. Experience of supervising staff in Systemic/ other psychological approaches. Experience of maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.

Desirable

Experience of specialist systemic assessment, formulation and intervention with clients across a range of care settings ( outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings). Experience of designing and implementing research projects. Experience of the application of psychological therapies in different cultural contexts.
