Job summary

The Cancer and Haematology Ambulatory Care service islooking for an experienced, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and committed nurse who has a professional approach, able to contribute to the smooth running of the service, ensure the delivery of safe, high quality nursing care and ensure excellent patient experience.Candidates should have good interpersonal skills with an ability to motivate and lead a team. They should be able to work well under pressure with a flexible approach to work, and a willingness to lead service development.

As the Ambulatory Care Lead Nurse you will act as a role model for the service and across the Directorate with responsibility for the development of your team and involvement in education across all areas. You will have the opportunity to develop your personal, managerial and leadership skills within this role As the Ambulatory Care Lead Nurse you will have the opportunity to contribute to the Directorate strategy, working with the Lead and Deputy Lead SACT Nurses to develop the service and enhance the patient experience.

Main duties of the job

Use your expert knowledge and clinical judgement to lead the Ambulatory Care service to deliver high quality care Utilise SACT knowledge and experience to educate staff across the Directorate Work at an advanced level of practice within the specialist area demonstrating autonomous decision making Monitor and maintain standards of care across the SACT service Work across professional, organisational and system boundaries and proactively develop and sustain new partnerships and networks to influence and improve health, outcomes and healthcare delivery systems Effectively manage human, financial, material and information resources

Job responsibilities

Clinical

Demonstrate clinical expertise in the delivery of direct nursing care acting as a role model to the nursing team and demonstrating partnership with patients. Work at an advanced level of practice within the specialist area demonstrating autonomous decision making. Able to take a comprehensive patient history, assess and plan an episode of care, working in partnership with others and referring as appropriate. Using expert knowledge and clinical skills to support patients through their SACT treatment, be able to assess patients and make clinical decisions refer to an appropriate specialist when required. For patients requiring therapeutic medications and treatments, and after approval from the Trusts respective Non-Medical Prescribing Lead, the post-holder will prescribe medications safely and effectively in line with their scope of practice, utilising local or organisational guidelines, national guidelines, and adhering to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) Prescribing Standards, andNMC guidelines. Management and Leadership Manage the nursing in the team, ensuring the safe and effective staffing levels at the appropriate skill mix are maintained, including the co ordination of leave and duty rotas and the maintenance of accurate records, liasing with the lead chemotherapy nurse where the appropriate skill mix cannot be maintained. Ensure the appropriate use of the staff and non staff budget and Trust Funds in the team, being aware of the resource implications of clinical and managerial decisions and ensuring cost effectiveness. Select and appoint the nursing team with support from the senior nursing team as required. Ensure the effective delivery of a high standard of nursing care for all patients within the clinical areas by providing clinical leadership, direction, supervision and maintaining effective systems of work. Supervise and monitor nursing practice within the team to maintain standards and ensure competence.
