Additional/special features of the role:

Creating new innovative solutions to maximise the customer value proposition
Detailed mechanical design work including stress calculations, FMEA’s, 2D detailing, 2D layouts, tolerance stacks as required.
Ability to take on project roles such as Chief Designer or Chief Engineer as required by projects, ability to lead small- to mid-size project teams
Ensure the department tools/applications support the development and validation of the design solutions
Creation of technical reports and documentation as required for engineering projects.
Verify that the quality of the department output meets the internal and external customer requirements
Sign off drawings to ensure right first time and that they are aligned with both manufacturing and supplier operational capabilities
Support the department with detail design solutions during peak workload periods
Support Manufacturing and Assembly during “First Off” builds
Support Operations with design queries and concession requests
Support to the business development team with inputs on mechanical design related details
An office-based role, but there is a potential for extensive travel to support customer visits and meetings around the UK, Europe and, potentially, worldwide and the holder of a driving licence

Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualifications:

Degree (Bachelor or Masters) in Mechanical Engineering or similar field or with equivalent technical experience
Substantive experience working in an Automotive or Motorsport environment and way of working to achieve customer requirements.
Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles with ability to interpret FEA, CFD results and incorporate them in mechanical design
Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, and their impact on design, experience with DFMA
Ability to understand, produce and check 2D technical drawings to a high standard with high GD&T competency
3D CAD skills with one or more major CAD systems (e.g. CREO, CATIA, NX)
Experience with PLM systems, Windchill preferred
Leadership of small- to mid-size project teams
Advanced capabilities in Microsoft Office
A flexible approach to work successfully in a small team to aggressive timescales.
Committed individual to deliver a high-quality product, on time and to budget.
