Job summary

The aim of the ED Navigator project is to provide additional support for young people within the wider community that attend Hull Royal Infirmary, Emergency Department who have experienced violence with injury.

The post holder will offer specialist advice, advocacy, emotional support and information to victims of violence and their next of kin, dependents or associates when dealing with highlydistressing circumstances such as issues around Safeguarding Children or Adults at risk. In addition to being emotionally available to offer support to the Emergency Department staff using a trauma informed approach.

As part of the wider Safeguarding Team the successful applicant will be supported in their role to meet expectations and have access to continued professional development

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role will involve working with multiple project stakeholders to ensure there is a robust framework of support. This will include:

Initiating appropriate safeguarding concerns and support staff to complete referrals to appropriate organisations for individuals within the Local Authority areas or out of area Child/Adult at Risk, Domestic Abuse.

Development of an appropriate assessment tool to identify the risk to the victim impacted by serious violence (including knife and drug related violence)

Provision of intensive 1:1 support to the child, young person/adult referred to the Navigator team by hospital staff and other referral agencies substance misuse, schools and Yorkshire Ambulance Service

Collaboration with the child, young person/adult to design a bespoke support plan that meets identified needs including referrals to partners and agencies linking the individual into community-based support and activities.

A physical presence in the Emergency Department, developing the trauma informed skills and knowledge of clinical staff to engage with children, young people/adults who present as a result of violent incidents.

Working with community partners that have been impacted by serious youth violence.

Leading the ongoing evaluation, strategy, and development of theED Navigator project providing feedback to the Group Chief Executive team and the Violence Prevention Partnership.

Job responsibilities

The objectives are to facilitate a reduction in hospital admissions, serious violence and domestic homicides especially among those aged 11- 35 years who have been identified as being impacted by serious violence. This will be achieved through support and guidance to encourage engagement with services and promote movement away from violence.

Safeguarding/Trauma Informed care
