London, United Kingdom UCL Eastman Dental Institute Full time

About the role

The post-holder will work closely with Professor Flanagan to provide support across a range of projects at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH).

This post is focused on supporting the delivery of translational sarcoma research and related projects, lead by Professor Flanagan between the UCL and RNOH sites. A major focus of our work is to improve our understanding of Osteosarcoma; the most common primary bone cancer affecting children and young adults, as the treatment options and survival rates for Osteosarcoma patients have not significantly improved in the last 20yrs. The candidate will also be involved in co-ordinating a nationwide multi-centre digital pathology study (AI-SCOPE).

Applications must include a CV and a Cover Letter. The Cover Letter should be provided in the 'Why you have applied for this role' field in the application form. It should evidence the essential and desirable criteria outlined in the Person Specification part of the Job Description.

This post is funded for 12 months in the first instance.

About you

Applicants should have a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in biomedical or related sciences. In addition, they should have experience in research governance, data management and previous Biobanking and biomedical laboratory experience in an NHS setting. They should be familiar with logging, tracking and shipping of human samples and associated clinical data using secure databases/spreadsheets and in accordance with HTA, Information Governance and GDPR guidelines. They will be responsible for data management including ensuring the accuracy, integrity and completeness of datasets. Previous experience in identifying and approaching patients for research consent would be beneficial.

The person appointed will have a professional manner and be well-organised. They will be a good communicator and keep clear and organised records. They will liaise closely with collaborators and colleagues to ensure projects are completed efficiently and to a high standard.

The post holder will be expected to work relatively independently but also closely with a small team of junior lab and data research technicians at the RNOH, planning their day-to-day activity and providing training/supervision within the framework of the agreed research programme.
