About the Role

The research technician will be focused on experimental models of osteoarthritis, monitoring behavioural as well as tissue markers of disease. They will also conduct histological processing and analyses. Opportunity to be trained in protocols of cell culture, cell biology and molecular biology will be given.

About You

You must be fascinated by scientific research with the aim of identify and possibly develop novel therapeutic approaches to mitigate if not control chronic diseases that affect our society. The focus here is osteo-arthritis. You will have a BSc in a scientific discipline (ideally pharmacology) with some experience of experimental disease models. Thus previous lab experience is welcome.

About the School/Department/Institute/Project

The William Harvey Research Institute (www.qmul.ac.uk/whri) is a world-leading centre for research, with a vibrant, multidisciplinary scientific environment devoted to therapeutic innovation in cardiovascular, endocrine and inflammatory diseases. With over 600 staff members, the Institute consists of 8 Research Centres, 7 of which are based at Charterhouse Square. 

The Centre for Biochemical Pharmacology is formed by approximately 40 members including 12 Academic staff and 21 Research staff. The Centre is also home to 20 PhD students. The Centre has broad-ranging research interests covering the mechanisms of inflammation and resolution, tolerance and innate & adaptive immunity. 

Funded by a commercial collaboration, the research technician will join a small team devoted to define the biology and pharmacology of gelsolin, an protein endowed with anti-fibrotic and tissue regenerative properties. Our focus is to define how gelsolin switch the phenotype of chondrocytes in order to promote cartilage repair and regeneration.
