Job overview

The Senior Educational Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) is part of the education team supporting the delivery of educational activities for HCSWs. The Senior Educational HCSW also delivers enhanced fundamental training in the classroom and clinical environment.

The Senior Educational HCSW has a responsibility to support, supervise and assess new staff. The Senior Educational HCSW assists in ensuring the effective running of the new HCSW’s induction programme and care certificate achievement in the classroom and in clinical areas/department. 
This role will predominantly based at RSCH, with weekly travel to support at PRH also.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be training and support Healthcare Support Workers to

 Assist patients to carry out personal care including meeting hygiene and continence needs whilst encouraging independence, as appropriate . Assist with patient nutritional needs – eating, drinking, menu selection, meal delivery and special diets according to the individual patient’s needs  Assist patients to mobilise where appropriate.  Monitor patient’s clinical observations including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, blood glucose, height and weight on instruction from the qualified nurse. Recording the results appropriately and reporting any abnormalities to the Nurse or Nurse in Charge. To assist in the collection of specimens and record results 

Support the HCSW under the supervision of the qualified nurse, support patients undergoing clinical procedures ensuring their comfort and safety. 
To teach and assist in the maintenance of up to date, comprehensive and accurate records in accordance with current legal requirements.

Qualification and Experience

Essential criteria

Level 2 Health & Social Care, apprenticeship standard in Clinical Healthcare Support, or relevant equivalent qualification At least 1 year of working within a health and social care setting Care Certificate Maths GCSE (grade C or above or grade 4 to 9) or Maths Level 2 functional skills English GCSE (grade C or above or grade 4 to 9) or English Level 2 Functional skills Ability to demonstrate clinical skills to new/junior members of staff

Desirable criteria

Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support or Health and Social Care or relevant equivalent or willing to undertake Experience of supporting training and learning Experience of assessing knowledge and competence and signing off Care Certificate standards
