Bristol Vet Specialists is a brand-new multidisciplinary referral centre based in Avonmouth, Bristol. Covering over 30, square feet, it is custom built with uniquely designed facilities and the latest cutting-edge equipment.


With Specialists in all disciplines able to treat anything and everything under one roof, the hospital will act as a flagship hub for small animal pet owners in the Southwest and Wales. Our excellent location is easily accessible from major motorways – M5, M4, M49.

We are now looking an Oncology Registered Veterinary Nurse who would be interested in joining our fantastic team This is a full-time role plus weekends.

You will be care-driven and passionate about providing care to our oncology patients and their families. You will be eager to learn and develop your nursing skills to provide optimum care to our patients. You will have great teamwork skills but also be highly self-motivated, taking the initiative to complete tasks as needed. This role is supported by an oncology team keen to develop and further the RVN skills within the service. Although having an RVN with oncology experience would be ideal, it is not essential, as we are happy to provide training.


Tasks

Client care – providing support and nursing advice to oncology patient carers, as outpatients as well as inpatients, including communication about treatments and procedures, anaesthesia, and updates on patient status when they are in the hospital. Booking appointments, re-check examinations and scheduling treatments including radiation therapy treatment. Triaging referrals. Coordination and communication with the patient flow coordinator to maximise efficiency and patient safety. Admitting and discharging patients for oncology, restaging and radiation therapy appointments. Maintain precise and accurate patient records, charging procedures and treatments. Clinical nursing assessments including clinical examinations for general health, BCS assessment and basic parameters. Ensuring chemotherapy health and safety requirements are adhered to. Sedation or anaesthesia for diagnostic workups, including endoscopy, CT scans, ultrasound scans, biopsies, and other sampling techniques. Packing and processing in-house and external laboratory samples correctly. Preparing and administering chemotherapy safely. Assisting with radiation therapy patients. Assisting with the maintenance of stock levels of oncology drugs and supplies. Working according to oncology SOPs.
