Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom Newcastle University Full time

The Role

Supported by the Technical Operations Manager and the Director of the Process Industries Net Zero (PINZ) Centre for Doctoral Training. You will be responsible for the planning, organisation and management of the PINZ research labs and analytical facilities.

The new £12m Process Industries: Net Zero (PINZ) Centre for Doctoral Training will train over 55 postgraduate chemical engineers and chemists over the next 9 years. The research projects will include development of new chemical routes, new process technologies and new data processing to help the Process Industries transition to Net Zero. This will require significant new technical support, particularly on analytical techniques.

Working alongside the wider technical team for the discipline, you will be the key contact for the PINZ research labs and associated equipment. The role will include supporting academic and research colleagues, as well as our students with technical advice and analysis to progress PINZ PhD projects.

Through your practices, you should ensure the safe operation of the Centre’s research labs and experimental facilities within PINZ. You will assist users with all necessary steps to enable safe and effective use of the equipment, through effective communication. This will include advice upon design of experiments, health and safety, operational procedures and the use of new equipment. Your role will include delivery of training and maintenance of instrumentation to ensure the efficient running of our analytical facilities.

You will also support the Technical Operations Manager with management of the wider technical services across our chemical labs, including some aspects of School Infrastructure, Estates, Health and Safety and People Management.

This full-time position (37 hours per week) is available on a fixed-term basis for 69 months from the start date.
