An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Dermatology department of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. Due to ongoing service demands there is the need to recruit a Consultant Dermatologist with a specialist interest in Paediatric Dermatology.

This opportunity will allow the successful applicant to join the innovative, award winning and renowned Dermatology team based in St Woolos Hospital.

There is no requirement for on call.

The department has an effective team approach facilitated by weekly meetings and is keen to help new colleagues pursue their career interests as they develop experience within their chosen field. We also participate in the South Wales Dermatology specialist training programme.

The Dermatology Department is a busy innovative department seeing 9,000 new patients per year in general, paediatric and one-stop lesion clinics. The department was among the first to introduce teledermatology in the UK in 2013. This service now provides for 5,000 referrals per year with patients attending the medical illustration department for images. The service has proved very successful in reducing patient waiting times.

Main duties of the job

This post is to support the Dermatology Directorate with the Paediatric Dermatology service and Medical Dermatology clinics, providing an opportunity to join an enthusiastic and forward-thinking department, with thought given to the long-term sustainability of the Paediatric Dermatology service. To be a key decision maker in the long-term planning of the Dermatology service.

There is a well-established Paediatric Dermatology service supported by a team of Paediatric Clinical Nurse Specialists. Paediatric Dermatology clinics are based at the Dermatology Unit in St Woolos Hospital.

This position involves Regulated Activity with children and adults as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:

Applicants must hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC

Candidates for Consultant posts must also be on the GMC Specialist Register (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR(CP)date within 6 months of interview.
