The Role

The main purpose of the role is to head the Landscape Management Team and be responsible for:

  1. Managing all aspects of the maintenance of the green infrastructure within the Estates.
  2. Developing and delivering landscape improvement projects within the budget of the Landscape Management Department.
  3. Managing the Landscape Management Department's budgets and ensuring value for money, competitive purchasing, and accountability for expenditure.
  4. Working to ensure the provision of an efficient and effective landscape management service.
  5. Ensuring that Landscape Maintenance Department staff issues are identified, addressed, and resolved in line with procedures.
  6. Liaising with all other departments within the company to ensure the goals of the Landscape Management Department are transparent and understood.
  7. Working proactively with the Assistant Director of Estate Services in the procurement of new landscaping business and project managing external contracts.
  8. Being pro-active in the identification of developments within the Landscape Industry and assessing the viability of the inclusion of such developments into the department.
  9. Being the first point of contact for information and advice on all aspects of Landscape Management.
Main Duties and Responsibilities Supervision:
  1. Line managing a team of Landscape Management Department Supervisors and ensuring all record-keeping requirements are undertaken accurately and delivered on time.
  2. Providing a training programme to ensure all staff are compliant with current legislation and have the skills to deliver an efficient and effective service.
  3. Ensuring that Landscape Maintenance Operatives are line managed effectively.
  4. Ensuring all staff comply with the policies and procedures.
  5. Ensuring all staff monitoring, sickness, and disciplinary procedures are undertaken and delivered on time.
  6. Ensuring the continued professional development of the Landscape Management Department staff and the procedures and practices of the department.
Monitoring and Inspection:
  1. Ensuring the Tree Management procedure fulfills the legal responsibilities of the company as landlord.
  2. Maintaining tree inspection data on the digital Tree Management System.
  3. Managing and monitoring departmental expenditure and ensuring the delivery of the service within budget.
Operational:
  1. Implementing a planned programme of works during all seasons of the year to ensure all staff are appropriately organised and equipped with machinery and materials to deliver the planned works.
  2. Implementing a planned maintenance programme for all vehicles, machinery, and equipment.
  3. Assisting with the implementation of a Quality Assurance Strategy for all Landscape Maintenance and improvement works.
Organisational:
  1. Preparing quotations for external contracts.
  2. Assisting, in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Estate Services, Area Estate Service Managers, and appointed members of the Finance Department in the preparation of contract specifications and submissions.
Health & Safety:
  1. Leading and managing the Landscape Management Department's Health & Safety at Work Policies and Procedures.
  2. Taking advice from and liaising effectively with the Health & Safety Officer to ensure compliance in all areas and pro-active improvements wherever required.
Involvement & Engagement:
  1. Ensuring departmental team and individual meetings are held as per company requirements and that all minutes are kept and all identified requirements actioned.
  2. Attending and contributing to Estate Services Management Team meetings and to other meetings as required or requested by the Assistant Director of Estate Services.
Skills and Qualifications
  1. Professional Qualifications in Landscape Maintenance and Tree Management.
  2. PA1 and PA6 certification.
  3. And/or comparable equivalent qualification or demonstrable experience and expertise.
  4. Experience of managing staff within a land-based industry discipline.
  5. Experience of identifying, addressing, and resolving staff issues.
  6. Experience of successfully managing change in the workplace affecting staff members.
  7. Experience of preparing and implementing a Landscape Maintenance programme.
  8. Ability to manage, supervise and demonstrate a comprehensive herbicide programme, machinery and equipment maintenance programme, vehicle management system, grass and shrub maintenance programme, tree inspection, inventory and contract management programme, and landscape improvement programme.
