This post is a developmental role, starting as an 8a the successful candidates will be supported to further develop skills necessary to the role of a Nurse Consultant. There will also be an expectation the successful candidates will undertake further study up to Masters level in an area relevant AMH Community. Progression to 8b will be dependant on completion of set criteria.

Community mental health services play a crucial role in delivering mental health care for adults and older adults with severe mental health needs as close to home as possible. This role enhances the provision of our current Adult Mental Health services to the population of Doncaster City, based on the sites across the four locality areas in Doncaster. We work across community and clinic-based services.

The post holder will work autonomously to manage their own workload and continue to develop and apply their knowledge and skills to a broad range of clinically and professionally challenging and complex situations.

There are two substantive posts and one 2 year fixed term post available.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have direct patient contact for 60% or higher of their job plan providing appropriate intervention to a patient caseload within the specialty from diagnosis throughout the treatment trajectory.

The post holder will support the Consultant Psychiatrist and existing Nurse Consultants in providing clinical leadership to the team. This will involve establishing partnerships internally and externally with a common purpose across agencies to impact on service development. This will be in accordance with national drivers and local needs assessment to create an impact locally and nationally. This will include the development of patient pathways, teaching packages and working closely with commissioners where appropriate.

There are 4 main components to this role of advanced nursing practice, each of which will be described in more detail within duties and responsibilities:

Clinical/direct care practice within the defined clinical area Leadership and collaborative practice Improving quality and developing practice Developing self and others.

The post holder will be a highly competent, credible, and experienced autonomous practitioner who uses their breadth and specialist knowledge, professional visibility and advanced clinical skills across the 4 pillars of practice.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN Clinical supervision training and experience Non-medical prescribing qualification (or working towards) Mentor/teaching qualification (or equivalent experience) Master's degree in health related subject relevant to area of clinical expertise or portfolio of experience related to clinical specialism.

Desirable

Willingness to undertake Advanced Clinical Practice Masters Qualification Willingness to work towards Approved Clinician status Leadership qualification

Demonstrable recent mental health care experience at advanced level Nurse-led management of a service or component of a service To have been involved in the development of protocols and clinical guidelines Leadership in service improvement or quality initiatives such as clinical benchmarking Leading a team Evidence of significant contribution to clinical developments To have been involved in the delivery of training to clinical staff Thorough understanding of the policy/standards agenda in relation to area of clinical expertise, and an understanding of the broader policy drivers pertinent to healthcare delivery Ability to work in collaboration with colleagues Ability to work autonomously in making critical decisions Strategic planning.
