Job summary

We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Senior Healthcare Support Worker, to work within the Ophthalmology (Eye) Department at Bridlington Hospital.

The team are a knowledgeable and progressive group of nurses, HCSWs, medical staff and allied healthcare professionals, delivering high standards of patient care to a wide range of patients in the local area.

The eye clinic is open Monday to Friday, with a wide variety of clinical activity. There is opportunity for learning and development within the Senior HCSW role, with training provided for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

Provide excellent patient care in undertaking tasks expected of all healthcare assistants: Testing VisionMeasuring IOPConducting visual fieldsInstilling eye drops under supervision of registrantsAttending to patients' general needs during their visitInclusive of many other duties of HCAs Assisting in treatment rooms for procedures such as intravitreal injections, cross-site as required. Mentoring less senior members of the team, including new starter HCAs Providing guidance and support for all staff members, leading in terms of attitude, energy and quality of care. Upholding the Trust's values at all times.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

Previous experience working and communicating with the public in a health/social care/educational role.

Desirable

Experience working within a team in a healthcare environment, preferably ophthalmology. Experience mentoring and teaching junior staff.

Qualifications

Essential

A minimum of Grade C or above in English and Maths, at GCSE level (or equivalent, Level 2 functional skills)

Desirable

Evidence of continued learning in healthcare settings. Level 3 vocational qualification in a health/social care related subject, or willingness to complete the level 3 Diploma (QCF) appropriate to the clinical area, as provided by the organisation, within 24 months.

Knowledge

Essential

Sign-off on all band 2 HCA tasks specific to ophthalmology. Keenness to learn.

Desirable

Evidence of knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy, testing, disease and treatments
