Job summary

To be embedded within CAMHS Outreach multidisciplinary teams to deliver supported conversations or targeted, time limited interventions as part of personalised care plans under supervision of CAMHS Outreach Registered Practitioners to children and young people experiencing a mental health crisis.

Facilitate and enable children and young people experiencing a mental health crisis to be able to access and reintegrate back into either school, other education provision or local community-based support options and activities as part of their recovery.

Have a breadth of community-based knowledge and create good working relationships with a range of practitioners working in Gloucestershire who support mental health and emotional well being needs of children and young people

Attend and participate in identified training and the staff appraisal process.

Main duties of the job

Some of the main duties of the job include;

Under the supervision of CAMHS Outreach Registered Practitioners, to develop therapeutic relationships and engage with children and young people experiencing a mental health crisis to deliver of a personalised care plan and to ensure access to appropriate services are obtained on needs led basis under supervision of CAMHS Registered Practitioners,

Have a breadth of community-based knowledge and develop good working relationships with a range of practitioners working in Gloucestershire who support mental health and emotional well being needs of children and young people

Under the supervision of CAMHS Registered Practitioners, provide the "support" link in the care co-ordination process for an allocated number of children and young people.Targeted, time limited interventions may include:

Supported conversations and delivery of targeted interventions to enable them to access and reintegrate back into either their school, other education provision or local community-based support options and activities

Enable children and young people to develop their own self management "tool kit" of personal coping mechanisms and support networks to build future mental health resilience.

Job responsibilities

To plan and organise own activity, prioritising workload appropriately in order to make the best use of time and feeding back to the team as appropriate. To participate in the induction and support of new staff and students as requested To demonstrate self directed learning, actively seeking development opportunities to enhance practice and knowledge base. To co-supervise junior unregistered staff in conjunction with a registered practitioner as requested. To use petty cash monies needed for service user activities in line with Trust policies and procedures To maintain accurate RiO health records in line with Trust policy. To input all clinical activity (indirect and direct) onto RiO or equivalent data base in order to enable the collection of accurate statistics, as required by the Trust. To provide advocacy or links with advocacy organisations, as appropriate. To identify barriers to social inclusion and work to resolve the issues. To build partnerships with other community agencies. To respond sensitively to the cultural norms of differing communities. Attend and participate in identified training and the staff appraisal process. Comply with, and be aware of, Trust policies, procedures and guidelines. Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

NVQ level 3 or equivalent level of competency-based training in a relevant health or social care area PLUS theoretical and practical knowledge to diploma level equivalent, obtained through formal competency training, short courses and experience OR successful completion of approved associate practitioner training or relevant foundation degree or commitment to obtain within 2 years.

Desirable

Basic IT skills - such as word processing, emailing

LENGTH AND / OR NATURE OF EXPERIENCE

Essential

Knowledge of relevant legislation Mental Health Act, Child Protection, child mental health-based legislation Knowledge and understanding of social inclusion approach. Knowledge and understanding of care planning and risk assessment (completed an Approved course in relation to Risk Assessment). Clinical skills training (awareness of physical health and wellbeing).

PROFESSIONAL / MANAGERIAL / SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE

Essential

Knowledge and understanding of care planning and risk assessment (completed an Approved course in relation to Risk Assessment). Knowledge and understanding of principles underpinning delivering integrated care, including social inclusion approach. Knowledge of the Care Programme Approach process Knowledge of relevant legislation Mental Health Act, Child Protection

Desirable

Knowledge and Skills in Working with children and young people with mental health and emotional well being needs Motivational Interviewing Mental State Examinations To have a knowledge of the purpose and process of workload and clinical supervision as well as the value of incorporating reflective practice into daily working practice
