Job summary

In order to maintain your clinical practice there will be regular clinical duties, which will include a 1:11 vascular registrar on-call and participation in outpatient clinics and theatre sessions as well as supporting the ward. Your research commitment will be equally split with your clinical commitment. The job is EWTD compliant.

This job would be suitable for either full time or as a part time job share post.

Main duties of the job

RESEARCH FELLOW (ST3+ EQUIVALENT) IN VASCULAR SURGERY 1 Year Fixed Term Contract ending 02/10/2025

An opportunity has arisen for a Research Fellow in Vascular Surgery at St George's Vascular Institute, St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Applicants must have completed Basic Surgical Training at the time of taking up the post. Applications from trainees already in Higher Surgical Training are also encouraged as OOPR placements. The post combines research leading to a higher degree (MD(Res) or PhD) with undergraduate teaching and clinical duties. The clinical workload will include participating in the vascular surgery on-call rota. The post would be suitable for higher surgical trainees wishing to pursue a career within Vascular Surgery, with experience of vascular and endovascular procedures. The post is for one year subject to performance review, with a two or three year duration being normal to complete a higher degree.

The successful candidate will support the present provision of vascular surgical services to the populations of South-West London and surrounding areas as key members of our dynamic clinical team.

About us

St George's Vascular Institute encompasses an integrated clinical, research and educational facility on the St George's site. The clinical service provides secondary services for its resident population and provides a tertiary referral service for South West London, which includes Kingston, Croydon, Epsom & St Helier, and East Surrey hospitals, as well as further afield. The institute has particular interests in complex aneurysm repair, aortic dissection, lower limb endovascular procedures, vascular access and carotid disease.

The Vascular unit comprises of a 22-bedded specialist ward with an adjacent vascular laboratory. The outpatient facility includes a one-stop duplex examination facility. The post holder will have access to state of the art basic science and clinical research facilities and will be expected to take a leading role in delivering the Institute's educational commitments.
