Ashington, United Kingdom Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and wear (CNTW) NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job summary

We wish to recruit an enthusiastic and creative Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join the Older Adult Pathway in Northumberland. This post will largely be based at Ashmore House in Ashington, covering South Central Northumberland, but with flexibility to pick up cases as required across other Northumberland areas.

The post is a permanent Band 7 preceptorship post, progressing to Band 8a upon completion and qualification in relevant training. We are keen to recruit a clinician with an interest to train and qualify in either a relational therapy (for example, Cognitive Analytic Therapy or Systemic Therapy) or in Neuropsychology. If successful at interview, this will be outlined and agreed with the Professional Lead. The post-holder will be supported to develop additional competencies for working at 8a level, for example providing specialist therapy supervision.

The person appointed will be working across the Community Treatment Team and the Northumberland Memory Service. As part of the Community Treatment Team the person appointed will be providing psychological assessment, formulation and treatment for older adult clients and families experiencing a variety of complex mental health difficulties. In addition, they will provide supervision and scaffolding to members of the Community Treatment Team.

Main duties of the job

A substantive part of this post will also be as part of the Northumberland Memory Service, providing detailed and comprehensive neuropsychological assessments and reports as part of the diagnostic pathway. In addition, the person appointed will also provide neuropsychological assessments of cognitive functioning as part of the Community Treatment Team to inform formulations and care plans. Experience and confidence in conducting and interpreting neuropsychological assessments is an essential competence. Specialist supervision to support neuropsychological skills development is available in the pathway.

The post provides substantial scope and opportunities for developing special interests in particular psychological approaches, teaching/training, clinical supervision, research, as well as involvement in service development. The Psychology Network is friendly and supportive. The Psychology Team is embedded within a thriving network of clinicians providing services to Older Adults in Northumberland, and there is a very active local FPOP branch. Additionally, we have close links with the Newcastle upon Tyne and Teesside Doctorate training courses and regularly have Trainees on placement as well as contributing to the course teaching.
