Aviation Development Manager

Birmingham Airport is the UK’s seventh largest airport with 30 airlines serving over 120 destinations direct and onwards to over 400. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic 13m customers a year flew in and out of BHX. Going forward we project growth to more than 18m customers a year by 2033 – by which time we will be connected to central London by HS2 trains in just 37 minutes and aim to have become a net zero carbon airport.

Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Aviation Director, the Aviation Development Manager will manage existing and help create new airline and tour operator relationships - maintain existing business and assist with increasing passenger volume, revenue and yield. The role will be responsible for producing and delivering compelling sales pitch documents, supported by accurate data analysis and research.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Aviation Development

Growing the business

Devise, develop and recommend to the Aviation Director potential scenarios for aviation development, providing a centre of excellence and knowledge based on robust data sources, market intelligence, appropriate analysis and clearRetain existing airline and tour operator services and developing new additional passenger volume and airline routesDevelop sales strategies and closely monitor the performance of all airlines and tour operator services operating to ensure they continue and are successful, profitable and long term. Ensure key internal stakeholders are focused on the airlines and routes that are under performing.Manage the introduction and removal of airlines with key internal stakeholders.Support the Travel Trade and wider teams in improving airline load factors and revenues whereAssist the Aviation Director in the development of the Aviation DevelopmentAssist the Aviation Director in setting pricing policies and the implementation and monitoring of incentiveReport to the Executive Board, as necessary, on aeronautical incentive proposals and other Aviation relatedDeputise for the Aviation Director as required.

 Analysis

Constantly reviewing and optimising aviation strategy

Ensure appropriate data sources are utilised to produce accurate analysis of the catchment area and wider competitive arena. Recognise and extract critical indicators from large and complex data sets, whilst interpreting the data in a business context, ensuring that complex information is presented in an easy to understand manner whilst not diluting the message.Lead creation of compelling pitch documents to ensure Birmingham Airport successfully meets the expected business plan and budget, both activity and income.Build cohesive presentations and expansion pitches of business information and produce effective business cases to allow for financial evaluation of anyPlay supporting role in creation of Birmingham Airport’s aeronautical passenger and income budgets, forecasts and business plans.

Managing Relationships

A team player

Represent the business at frequent Aviation Development conferences and meetings. Meetings will be world-wide. Build and maintain strong relationships across the aviation and tour operatorBuild strong internal relationships and gain trust throughout the business to provide transparency and support for our aeronautical Ensure all appropriate internal information is managed and distributed to airlines and tour operators where necessary. Develop collaborative working relationships with key departments within the Airport Company, including, but not limited to Operations, Commercial, Marketing and Finance.Pro-actively understand Birmingham Airport and its customers’ information needs and business objectives and implement appropriate aviation developmentSupport the Aviation Director through the identification, development and communication of market opportunities and threats to existing and potential airlines and tourParticipate in other activities undertaken by the Department and liaise as appropriate with Airport Departments not otherwise specified.

Safety

To support and promote the safety culture within the department

Ensure the Aviation team display the required Health & Safety culture and values. Ensure all the team are aware of their responsibilities and comply with best practice and legal

Flexibility

To carry out such other duties commensurate with the grading of the post which may be determined from time to time.
