Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Wessex Genomics Laboratory Service, Southampton Laboratory, for Biomedical Support Worker to join our team.

The WGLS is a new integrated genomics testing service formed from the amalgamation of Wessex Regional Genetics Laboratory, now WGLS (Salisbury), and Molecular Pathology at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) . The WGLS is an integral part of the Central & South Genomic Laboratory Hub, one of seven across England.

This position will be recruited to the Southampton Laboratory, based at UHS.

Job responsibilities

What youll do

The post holder will work in the Specimen Reception and with the sample referral pathway through Molecular Pathology. This will involve:

Receiving and booking in samples ready for DNA and RNA extraction Extracting DNA and RNA and performing QC checks on the samples Sending samples to other Trusts for further testing Receiving and uploading results from other Trusts General lab duties to ensure the smooth running of the department.

What were looking for Good keyboard skills and a working knowledge of databases and spreadsheets will be a distinct advantage Candidates should have good communication and interpersonal skills, be highly organised and the ability to work in a team is essential Relevant understanding of a molecular laboratory would be an advantage
