Teaching Personnel are recruiting on behalf of a friendly and inclusive primary school located in the heart of Thornton, dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for all pupils. The school are committed to ensuring that every child is given the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

The Role

We are seeking a compassionate and patient SEN Teaching Assistant to join the schools KS1 team. The successful TA will provide 1:1 support to a Key Stage 1 (KS1) pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This role is vital in helping the child access the curriculum and develop essential life skills in a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored support to a child with autism, focusing on their individual needs and learning style.
  • Assist with the implementation of the child's Individual Education Plan (IEP) and work closely with the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Support the child in developing social skills, communication, and emotional regulation.
  • Implement and adapt strategies to help the child access the curriculum and participate fully in classroom activities.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment, encouraging the child’s independence and confidence.
  • Monitor and record the child’s progress, reporting regularly to the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Collaborate with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure a consistent approach to the child's development.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working with children with autism or other special educational needs is highly desirable.
  • A patient, empathetic, and understanding approach to supporting children with SEN.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A positive and proactive attitude, with a commitment to inclusive education.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ in Supporting Teaching and Learning) are an advantage but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
