About Us:

We are a vibrant and inclusive primary school located in the heart of Colchester. Our school is dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for all students, particularly those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We are proud of our ever-growing SEND provision and are looking for a passionate and experienced SENCO to join our team.

SENCO Role Overview:

We are seeking a qualified and dedicated SENCO with experience in managing and delivering high-quality education to children with SEND, particularly those who are non-verbal autistic with high needs. The successful candidate will lead our SEND provision and manage a team of SEND Learning Support Assistants (LSAs).

SENCO Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the SEND provision across the school.
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure comprehensive support for SEND students.
  • Manage and support a team of SEND LSAs, providing guidance, training, and development.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitor and assess the progress of students, adjusting strategies as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with SEND legislation and school policies.
  • Provide training and support to staff on SEND best practices and inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Act as the main point of contact for parents and carers regarding SEND issues and support.

SENCO Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with additional SENCO qualifications or experience.
  • Proven experience in teaching and supporting children with SEND, particularly non-verbal autistic children.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • A commitment to inclusive education and the ability to inspire and motivate students and staff.
  • Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude.
