Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a child with Special Educational Needs in a mainstream primary school in Colchester.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 support for a SEND child, focusing on their academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Adapt learning materials and strategies to suit the child's needs, ensuring access to the curriculum.
  • Assist with implementing the child's Individual Education Plan (IEP) and contribute to regular progress reviews.
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to ensure a holistic approach to the child's education.
  • Support the child with personal care and mobility if required.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive classroom environment, encouraging independence and engagement.
  • Monitor and document the child's progress, offering feedback to the teaching team and parents.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with children with SEND in a school setting (preferred).
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient attitude, with a passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • Ability to build a strong, positive relationship with the child and work closely with the school team.
  • A commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of children.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one).
