The Online Learning Video Producer will have responsibility for all aspects of media development. This is broken down into three main areas:

Pre-productionProductionPost-production.

The post supports the wider objectives of the IDEA Lab to become a leading centre of excellence in delivering online and blended learning programmes. This may involve working on cross-college activities and working flexibly to meet requirements, including some filming on location. You will work with other College Faculties and Departments on key initiatives, depending on opportunities, need and workload.


Pre-production

Work closely with the Learning Design team and senior academic faculty to develop media and design assets for the full suite of high-quality online and blended programmes for the SchoolWork with the Learning Design team to provide instructional media insight, to determine the best media approach for subject matterWork with academics to develop scripts and clear narratives before the production processCreate and develop compelling designs to facilitate learning, using pedagogically sound design principlesOrganise and maintain media assets so they can be reused across modulesImplement processes to improve the development of media-based resourcesMeet regularly with Learning Designers and Faculty to report and review the performance of the content, seeking to amend practices to ensure continued improvement.

Production

Responsible for the media suite setup and readiness for filming, including lights, props, equipment, scripts, autocue etc.Ensure all stakeholders are briefed on their expectations during production to ensure logical sequencing and smooth runningShoot scenes according to requirements set out by the Learning Design team, ensuring quality footage and audio are captured both in the studio and on locationCapture and edit high-quality audio recordings for podcasts and similar audio-only formats.Ensure the reliability and consistency of content produced, following the overall pedagogical approach from the IDEA LabOverall responsibility for all outputs from the production processSupporting faculty in the self-recording of lecturesDesigning and implementing technology solutions to multi-modal classrooms.

Post-production

Work closely with Learning Designers and the media production team to develop and edit content for online and blended programmesCreate and develop graphics, using pedagogically sound design principles to enhance the student learning experience on our bespoke learning platformReview rushes and raw material to ensure consistency and continuity from scripts/module outline/storyboardCreate rough and final cuts, adding dialogue, motion graphics and effects that follow style guidelines, ensuring consistency across modulesConsult with stakeholders throughout the post-production processContinually explore and implement new editing technologies and best practices to maximise efficiency across the whole media teamAssist in the review and evaluation of the effectiveness of instructional media across IDEA Lab’s portfolioEnsure all media assets have timed transcription to adhere to accessibility requirementsEnsure the reliability and consistency of content produced and that all developed content meets expected standards.

Other activities

Champion the use of media technologies and innovative teaching at the SchoolLead the visual development of the IDEA Lab’s brand, creating innovative and effective digital assets, artworks, infographics and icons to transform the student learning experienceAssist with the creation of graphical content that supports the broader aims of the IDEA LabParticipate in appropriate university groups and committees concerned with the IDEA LabKeep abreast of developments in learning technologies in HE and beyond to improve and enhance learning technologies support provisionUndertake any other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the grade of the post.

Education

Strong educational background (degree level and above), preferably in the fields of film or media studies, and/or EducationEvidence of prior experience in developing media content for online educational programmesProven experience as a self-shooting camera operator and video editorDemonstrable video editing skills with a strong portfolio, including a solid experience with video software packages such as Premiere ProDemonstrable motion graphic design skills, with a strong portfolio, including experience of using software such as After Effects, Illustrator and PhotoshopDemonstrable interest and enthusiasm for the use of technology in educationExperience of working with academic staff to design, develop, test and evaluate e-Learning resourcesAbility to work as part of a team in the management and successful delivery of projects and to prioritise workloads when working on multiple projects

Knowledge

Clear knowledge of contemporary best practice and the leading trends in online and blended learningClear knowledge of motion graphic design and editing using Adobe After Effects and Premiere ProHigh level graphic design skills with extensive knowledge in the use of Illustrator and PhotoshopAbility to transform briefs into a final productSignificant relevant knowledge of the nature of this role, or a comparable role, within a relevant teaching and learning environmentAble to visualise complex concepts and information in a clear and visually appealing format

Skills & Abilities

Highly organised, with strong professional skills in the project management of complex projectsExcellent problem-solving skills. Finds innovative and elegant solutions to problems using a logical approachProficient in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office – After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro and PowerPointAdaptable and flexible; ability to prioritise a high workload, to work well under pressure and within tight deadlinesMeticulous attention to detail, works to a high level of accuracyAbility to influence and lead peers and external partnersWell-developed skills in verbal and written communicationCreative, self-motivated, results-orientated and has a ‘can-do’ attitudeThrives in a busy environment with diverse priorities.

Other desirable requirements

Familiarity with 3D animation or experience in creating immersive environments using platforms like Unity or Unreal Engine.Coding experience.Ability to edit and manipulate audio recordings using Adobe Audition or similar DAWs.
