Job summary
We have a fantastic opportunity to recruit a permanent Band 6 Speech and Language Therapists to our Acute Stroke Team in East and North Hertfordshire, based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage.
The role is in our Acute Stroke Service, where you will be working alongside an MDT including Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Consultants, Dieticians and Psychologists. You will work alongside a large team of other SLTs and SLTas to deliver varied and evidence based intervention to our service users. We regularly run Videofluoroscopy Clinics as part of our Acute Service, which you will be encouraged to participate in. We offer a full seven day service including bank holidays, which offers additional supplementary pay.

This role would be an excellent opportunity for a Band 6 therapist looking to develop their skills or as a development opportunity for an experienced Band 5 therapist.
A full valid driving licence and access to a car to use regularly for business purposes is essential for community posts (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).
This post attracts a 'Golden Hello' payment of £2,500: £1250 payable after 6 months (upon completion of successful probation period) and £1250 payable after 12 months. Not applicable for internal candidates.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role are to provide assessment and intervention in an Acute Stroke environment.
You will demonstrate your excellent knowledge of dysphagia and communication by using sound evidence based care You will support junior colleagues including NQTs and SLTas by providing both clinical and peer supervision You will be involved in complex discharge planning and mental capacity assessments You will participate in daily MDT meetings to discuss patient care, ensuring SLT goals are embedded in the overall patient management. You will be expected to aim to deliver SLT intervention against a SSNAP rated serviceThe Speech and Language Therapy Service in East & North Hertfordshire is an integrated acute and community service covering community clinics, inpatient Neurological Rehabilitation and the Acute and Stroke teams based at the Lister Hospital.

We value our staff and see clinical supervision as a priority both through senior supervision and peer support models. Annual appraisal and personal objective setting is a Trust priority.
The post-holders will work closely with the Speech and Language Therapy team and the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team to provide assessment, diagnosis and management of adults with acquired communication and swallowing needs and demonstrating effective clinical practice through continued learning, reflective practice and supervision. The post-holders will also be involved in providing support for more junior members of the team including newly qualified SLTs and SLTAs.
