Job summary

This is a wonderful opportunity to join the waste management team at Guy's and St Thomas' Foundation Trust and be part of a team with increased emphasis on Sustainability and Innovation. The role will also support the Trust Waste Manager in achieving targets as set out both internally and externally through NHSE and other outside agencies.

The role, jointly with the Waste Management team, will provide support in managing the contracts with suppliers and the in-house Waste Management team at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals.

Main duties of the job

Assist the Trust Waste Manager in ensuring that all waste streams are correctly segregated, collected, stored and transported in a safe manner and in accordance with relevant guidance and legislation. Assist the Trust Waste Manager with contracted suppliers in line with their KPI's. Have an awareness of new innovations within the waste industry to introduce changes where possible. To include innovations that will assist the Trust in achieving its sustainability goals. Undertake internal audits of all areas (both clinical and non-clinical) to ensure that waste is bring correctly segregated. Assist the Trust Waste Manager in delivering training to staff of all levels and disciplines. Work with both internal and external stakeholders to effect changes in processes etc. Assist the Trust Waste Manager with the management of Pest Control.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

Experience of working in Facilities Management at management level, including management of staff. Experience of working in the Waste Industry and knowledge regarding legislation and auditing.

Desirable

Knowledge and understanding of the NHS and the challenges it faces. Awareness of sustainability issues facing the UK and in the NHS in general.

Education & Qualifications

Essential

Diploma level or equivalent experience in Waste Management (CIWM etc.) Willingness to undertake necessary training IOSH

Desirable

Highly developed knowledge of waste management procedures and regulations. Evidence of continued learning/personal development including in sustainable waste management.

Skills & Competencies

Essential

Knowledge of a range of specialist technical areas including CQC requirements, H&S guidelines etc. Able to prioritise and organise own work and that of others and to work to strict time constraints.
