Edinburgh, United Kingdom NHS Scotland Full time

Victoria Hospital

Hours: 37 hours per week (These posts will also support on call, evening, weekend and public holiday service provision as part of the wider pharmacy team). Please note hours will reduce in line with latest NHS Pay Deal.

Do you want to be at the forefront of transforming clinical pharmacy, working with a dynamic team? Would you like to develop your clinical skills across a range of specialities before deciding in which area to develop advanced practice?

Following redesign of the pharmacy service in NHS Fife, we are expanding the specialist clinical pharmacist rotational programme (medical rotation) to include a new and exciting rotation in respiratory & blood borne viruses (BBV). This attractive addition to the rotation is ideal for pharmacists using their independent prescribing qualification in an outpatient clinic setting, or for gaining experience whilst undertaking the independent prescribing qualification.

We have TWO vacancies for specialist clinical pharmacists to join this programme, and gain experience mainly within a hospital setting, with opportunity for out-patient experience. Each part of the rotation would be 9 months and will initially include the following areas:

Specialist pharmacist rotation (medical)
1. Cardiology
2. Medicines for Elderly Acute (Victoria Hospital)
3. Medicine for Elderly Community Hospital including Hospital at Home service (Queen Margaret Hospital)
4. Admissions Unit
5. Respiratory/Blood borne viruses

This programme is mainly based in Kirkcaldy, with some rotations in Dunfermline area.

You will be working as a team of specialist pharmacists, supported by pharmacy technicians, foundation pharmacists and senior clinical pharmacists, under the leadership of our Lead Clinical Pharmacists. You will be supported to complete a relevant post graduate framework and train as an independent prescriber.

Applications are welcomed from pharmacists who are passionate about patient care and are keen to develop their clinical experience across a range of settings. Previous hospital experience is not essential as training and support will be given.

NHS Fife Pharmacy and Medicines Directorate serves a population of approximately 380,000 people, and is provided by an integrated team of around 300 Pharmacy staff, including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Support Workers, Nurses, and Administrators. The team work across Acute and Community hospital sites, General Practices, Mental Health services, and a range of specialist teams. Partnership working is at the core of our values, and we work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, including our Community Pharmacy colleagues, to deliver the highest quality care for everyone in Fife.

Fife has something to offer everyone and has excellent transport links, being only 30 mins- 1 hour from all major cities.

We welcome informal enquiries, so please contact , via email or MS teams, Anne Wilson, Lead Pharmacist for Community Health or Scott Mitchell, Lead Clinical Pharmacist - Surgery,

A requirement of this post is to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Prior to appointment.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. Your offer/contract of employment will therefore reflect the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your Hiring Manager.
