Job summary

The Hand Therapy Team at the Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting opening for either an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist with previous experience in Hand Therapy to join our team.

The role includes a varied patient caseload of trauma and acquired conditions of the hand and wrist, from both Orthopaedic and Plastic Hand Surgeons. Hand therapy is carried out in closed trauma fracture clinics, on the ward, and in out-patient settings for post-operative and non-operative patients. The team comprises 16 qualified therapists and a therapy assistant. There is regular MDT teaching and support for learning through in-service training and supervision.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a clearly identifiable senior clinical staff member. They will have significant clinical experience in hand therapy, provide sound clinical expertise to their team and more junior staff and coordinate and deliver high quality care. They will be a role model for expert clinical care, and lead on specific projects / service developments and management functions as delegated by the Band 7 therapists or Clinical Lead therapists. They will role model the identified Trust values at all times.

Relevant post registration experience at Band 5 level in core areas Clinical experience - previous experience as a band 6 therapist in managing a hand therapy caseload including acute and acquired conditions Experience of working as part of an MDT in clinical practice Evidence of presentation in in-service training

Desirable

Evidence of managing patients who have undergone extensor and/or flexor tendon repairs BAHT level 1 or equivalent Evidence of supervision and teaching of assistants, students and other MDT members

Able to clinically reason the application of appropriate assessment and treatment techniques in a specialist hand therapy setting Able to fabricate static splints Evidence of generic working in hand therapy Identifies challenges of working in varying hospital settings and demonstrates the ability to adapt own practice Able to use reflective practice as a tool for growth and development Understanding of the professional and legal responsibilities of clinical practice Awareness and sensitivity to cultural differences and beliefs Evidence of effective self-management including time, prioritisation, clinical caseload and stress
