About The Role
If you love meeting new people and want to support people affected by dementia in your area, then we may have just the volunteer role for you
As a Group Support Volunteer, you’ll support and encourage people affected by dementia to engage in activities and socialise with others in a group setting. A friendly face at the group, you’ll welcome and talk to people affected by dementia to help them feel comfortable and make sure they’re offered refreshments. You’ll also help set up and tidy away at the end of the group.
Your involvement in this role will ensure people affected by dementia are able to meet others in a similar situation, access the support and information they need and enjoy meaningful activities.
The Congresbury Care2gether group is delivered by Alzheimer's Society and funded by Yeo Valley Lions Club. It is a peer support group for carers of those with dementia, offering the opportunity to share experiences, information and strategies. While the carers group is taking place, a separate group exists for those people with a dementia diagnosis. It is this part of the group that you will be supporting, enabling people with dementia to take part in a variety of activities. It is a relaxed, informal atmosphere.Your role will be to assist the Group Facilitator by welcoming people to the group and supporting people with dementia to participate in activities. You will help set up the room in readiness for those attending the group, helping to place tables and chairs and also make hot and cold drinks.
The session lasts one and a half hours but you will be expected to arrive half an hour prior to the start to prepare for the group and stay half an hour after the end of the group to tidy away and take part in a debrief. The session is from 2pm to 4.30 pm on the first Wednesday of every month.
If you feel that you have the skills and importantly the empathy to make a difference to people living with dementia, then please apply. Please note that this is not a paid position.
