Children's Community Nursing Team Lead

The Children’s Community Nursing Team is based at The Moor Lane Centre, Chessington, and is funded by the NHS. The team consists of specialist school and community nurses, health care assistants and support workers and provides nursing care to children and young people with complex health needs and disabilities within community settings in Kingston. 

The community nursing team also provides a specialist nurse-led sleep service and forms part of the Integrated Service for Children with Disabilities (ISCD), working across health, education and social care.

About the role

As the Children’s Community Nursing Team Lead your main responsibilities will include:

Providing a neurodevelopmental paediatric nursing service to children aged 0 to 18 years (and up to 19 years in special schools) who have a range of developmental neurological disabilities. Undertaking assessments of children, using standardised assessments tools.These children may have complex and/or long term disabilities and additional needs. Liaising with the multidisciplinary team, families, carers and other professionals to maintain a holistic view of the child or young person. Where there are other professionals involved the team aim to provide advice and support jointly with those other relevant professionals. Providing detailed reports for various purposes to include EHCP (education and health care plans). Communicating effectively in complex and challenging situations. Providing clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and pre and post diagnostic support team.

About you

To be the Children’s Community Nursing Team Lead you will be passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of children and young people as well as demonstrating the following qualities:

Registered Children’s Nurse (Will consider RGN with relevant experience) NMC registered.  Management/ Leadership qualification or equivalent experience. Teaching and assessing qualification. Significant post registration experience working with children and young people in a community setting and sound knowledge and understanding of children’s community nursing services. Experience of managing and leading a team and developing a workforce. Ability to work independently and manage own workload with minimal supervision and have extensive safeguarding knowledge and experience.
