The Department of Clinical Neurophysiology at the Barts Health NHS Trust is excited to announce the opportunity for a Band 7 position for an enthusiastic and highly qualified specialised clinical physiologist to join a busy and friendly team.

The department is situated at the Royal London Hospital and the post holder will be involved in various neurophysiological diagnostic investigations in all age groups including, but not limited to: routine and sleep adult and paediatric EEGs and portable EEGs (within the trust and other affiliated hospitals).

In addition, a full range of electrophysiological tests are carried out in the department including multimodal EP recordings, video telemetry and NCS. The neurophysiology department at RLH is a busy department with many competing demands. It offers a wide range of clinical experiences for those seeking to develop their career as an independent clinical physiologist.

The candidates should have a minimum of a BSc (Hons) in clinical physiology (Neurophysiology) or alternatively completed equivalent formal specialist training. Candidate must also have significant post qualification experience especially in portable EEGs in the ITU setting as well as paediatric experience and RCCP or HCPC registration.

Main duties of the job

Provides a comprehensive Clinical Neurophysiological investigative service to both inpatients and outpatients of this Trust and of surrounding hospitals. Additionally the department provides a portable investigative service at the bedside to critically ill patients outside the Trust. Patients are of all ages, come from a large range of specialties and suffer from a wide variety of medical disorders affecting the central and peripheral nervous systems. Referrals come mainly from Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neonatology, Paediatrics, Intensive Care, General Medicine, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and Psychiatry. The most frequently encountered disorders include Epilepsy, Head Injury, Infective Disorders of the brain (e.g. Encephalitis), Anoxic Brain Damage, Nerve Entrapment, and Multiple Sclerosis.
