Job summary

Vacancies have arisen for 3 Biomedical Scientists to join our team in the Clinical Chemistry department at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospital, which forms part of the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology Network.

We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic Biomedical Scientists with a flexible approach to work.

The posts are covering hours over a 7 day working week. Participation in the out of hours service is an essential requirement, once deemed competent in all relevant areas. The OOH service is provided over 24/7, 365 days covering both the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospital sites.

Applicants must possess an IBMS accredited degree in Biomedical Sciences, have relevant experience in Clinical Chemistry, and hold current registration with the HCPC (Band 5/Band 6 BMS). Ideally, candidates will have completed the IBMS specialist portfolio (Band 6 BMS) or be ready for assessment.

We will also consider applicants without specialist portfolio or extensive experience if no suitable band 6 level applications are received. In these circumstances, we would appoint to AFC band 5, pay scale for applicants who are imminently about to obtain HCPC registration.

Main duties of the job

To deputise for Senior Staff as required in their absence for short periods of time. Participate in out of hours rotas covering the 24/7 routine Biochemistry service. To be accountable for own professional actions and work for long periods of time without direct supervision. Assist in monitoring quality standards, perform audit as directed in line with service needs. Ensure all tests are performed efficiently within the assigned time and in accordance with established protocols to the required standards. Specialist Biomedical Scientist staff monitor stock levels and initiate delivery using pre-arranged standing orders against predefined minimum stock levels as defined by laboratory management.

Qualifications

Essential

BSc in an accredited Biomedical Science degree (or equivalent qualification) Registered with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist Must hold the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Medical Microbiology or equivalent qualification / experience (Band 6)

Other relevant courses with regards to H&S, leadership, quality, or training

Experience with a range of laboratory techniques Experience with a wide range of laboratory techniques (Band 6) Discipline specific NHS experience in a UKAS accredited Microbiology laboratory (Band 6)

Discipline specific NHS laboratory experience Experience working within a laboratory providing local, regional, or national tertiary reference facilities (Band 6) Experience in the implementation of new methodologies and /or equipment (Band 6) Experience with the UKAS accreditation process (Band 6)
