This full-time position starts in September and continues until the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent role based on performance. The pay for this role ranges from £419.25 to £500 per week.

Role Overview:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  1. Individualized Support: Providing tailored one-on-one assistance to students with SEMH needs, helping them manage their emotions, behavior, and social interactions.
  2. Classroom Assistance: Assisting teachers in creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment, adapting lessons and materials to meet the needs of students with SEMH challenges.
  3. Behavior Management: Implementing effective behavior management strategies and interventions to support students in developing positive behavior patterns and coping mechanisms.
  4. Emotional Support: Offering emotional support and guidance to students, helping them navigate personal challenges and build resilience.
  5. Progress Monitoring: Tracking and recording students' progress, providing feedback to teachers, parents, and relevant staff, and adjusting support plans as necessary.
  6. Intervention Programs: Participating in and sometimes leading intervention programs designed to address the specific needs of students with SEMH difficulties, focusing on areas such as emotional regulation, social skills, and self-esteem.
  7. Collaboration: Working closely with teachers, special education staff, and parents to create and implement effective support plans for students with SEMH needs.
  8. Inclusive Activities: Encouraging and facilitating students' participation in classroom activities and school events, promoting inclusion and a sense of belonging.
  9. Crisis Management: Assisting in managing crisis situations, using de-escalation techniques and providing immediate support to students in distress.
  10. Professional Development: Engaging in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices in supporting students with SEMH needs.

Requirements:

  • A genuine passion for working with young people with social, emotional, and mental health challenges and a commitment to their educational and personal development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities effectively.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with a willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic school environment.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with SEMH needs, either in an educational setting or other relevant contexts, is highly desirable.
