Job summary

As part of the Transformation work across the Emergency and Acute Medicine Directorate we are looking to expand our Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) team. We are looking for trained ENPs, physiotherapists and paramedics with an interest in developing as a Minor Injuries Practitioner. We are able to offer bespoke training for physiotherapists, paramedics and nurses looking for a career in minor injuries within the Emergency Department at UHW and Barry Minor Injuries Unit. There is ongoing transformation work within the department with the implementation of e-Triage and an investment in education from the Lead Consultants for Minor Injuries and Consultant Nurse Practitioner.

The post holder will work within the current minor injuries team providing a high standard of clinical patient assessment and autonomous management of patients attending the Minor Injuries Unit in the Emergency Department at the University Hospital of Wales or Barry Minor Injuries Unit. You will be supported to work as an autonomous practitioner using an agreed scope of practice.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be identified as a clinical expert within the minor injuries setting and will be expected to assess patients, forming a treatment plan and discharging patients with minor injuries, autonomously.

The post holder will apply clinical patient assessment and diagnosis skills to patients attending the Emergency Department/Barry Minor Injury Unit with an injury. You will work within the agreed scope of practice to autonomously discharge or refer to speciality teams as required. To support this assessment, you will be able to request and interpret appropriate imaging as well as carrying out the required treatment/interventions such as fracture manipulation, joint reduction, wound closure and so on.

Support and facilitate the development of clinical practice by engaging in research and education as part of the multi-disciplinary team.

Support ongoing service improvement and development through audit and quality improvement projects.

Contribute to the teaching and education programme of the wider ED for the multidisciplinary team.

Administration of medications via Patient group Directions or working as an Independent Prescriber.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
